Natura 2000
Natura 2000 is an ecological network of important European protected areas in all the member states of the European Union. The aim of the network is to protect biodiversity, and individual areas that are selected on the basis of specific criteria. Natura 2000 does not primarily focus on protecting individual species, but mostly on preserving seriously threatened habitats and areas. To achieve this goal with maximum efficiency, all member states have mapped (or should have mapped) their natural biotopes.
